Nationals Member for Tweed, Geoff Provest MP, has announced that Tweed Shire Council will receive a share of a $5 million funding package under the Tropical Cyclone Alfred Agricultural Drainage Reset Program.
The $1.5 million funding package, including up to $500,000 from Council, will support the restoration of critical agricultural drainage infrastructure at the Condong Creek outlet. The project will improve water flow, enhance resilience, and help local farming communities recover from the impacts of Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
Administered by the NSW Reconstruction Authority in partnership with the NSW Soil Conservation Service, ensuring specialist technical expertise in sediment management and strict environmental safeguards.
Mr Provest said the investment would provide much-needed support for the region’s primary producers, who have endured a series of devastating natural disasters over the past decade.
“Our primary producers need this recovery and resilience support after multiple flood events across the North Coast,” Mr Provest said.
“Their resilience has been tested time and again by fires, floods and severe storms, and this funding will help restore essential drainage infrastructure that is critical to keeping agricultural land productive.”
