Many more Tweed seniors are to be protected from rising petrol and other transport costs with the NSW Government renewing and expanding the Nationals’ $250 Regional Seniors Travel Card, Tweed Nationals MP Geoff Provest reports.

“Applications through Service NSW are now open and, for the first time, Tweed seniors eligible for the Age Pension and receiving either a Disability Support Pension or a Carer Payment from Services Australia can also get the card,” Mr Provest said.

“It is the Nationals policy they said we could never get off the ground, but last year more than 354,000 NSW seniors including a whopping 20,000 plus in Tweed Shire came out winners.”

Mr Provest said Nationals Leader Paul Toole has secured the $250-a-year bonus for older people living outside Sydney on the basis that country people did not enjoy the same level of subsidised public transport as their city cousins.

“With petrol prices creeping up towards $2 a litre, it is great news that even more Tweed seniors will get the $250 Visa card,” Mr Provest said.
