More people across the State will be given the opportunity to access the training they need to get a job and get ahead with Member for Tweed Geoff Provest announcing the NSW Liberals & Nationals will deliver an additional 100,000 free TAFE courses.
This brings the total number of free TAFE courses being offered by the NSW Liberals & Nationals to nearly 700,000 over the next four years. In comparison Labor is only promising to deliver 600,000 free courses over a 10 year period.
Mr Provest said the initiative would unleash a new generation of workers by ensuring people have the training and qualifications they need to get a job and get ahead.
“The Liberals & Nationals are ensuring people across the State benefit from our strong economy and are able to get a job and get ahead,” Mr Provest said.
“We know the costs associated with further education and training can be prohibitive for those in our communities doing it tough and battling rising cost of living pressures.
“That’s why today’s announcement is all about removing cost barriers to ensure those who wish to access TAFE training to start their career or secure another job can.”
The 100,000 additional courses will be made up of 70,000 new fee-free courses for young job-seekers taking on traineeships and 30,000 free TAFE places for mature-aged workers.
Mr Provest said the free courses would target those in the community who need it most, and would build on the free courses already being offered to apprentices and disadvantaged people.
“The NSW Liberals & Nationals are delivering free TAFE courses to those in our community who need it most.
“The new free courses will help young job-seekers start out their career and also assist unemployed mature aged people to train up and secure another job.
“These free courses will cover areas with key skills shortages, such as aged care, childcare, ICT and construction.”
“While Labor can only manage to offer 600,000 free courses over a decade, the NSW Liberals & Nationals will offer more, quicker.
