Member for Tweed Geoff Provest is encouraging local youth to apply for a position on the 2019 NSW Youth Advisory Council (YAC).

The YAC is responsible for advising the NSW Government on issues of importance to young people, as well as evaluating youth-related policies.

Mr Provest said the YAC is a great opportunity for local youth to represent their views on policies and programs affecting young people.

“I encourage all local young people to apply for the opportunity to represent our community on the 2019 YAC,” Mr Provest said.

“Council membership is open to all NSW residents between the ages of 12 and 24.”

Minister responsible for Youth, Ray Williams said 12 Council members are sought from diverse locations, backgrounds and life experiences.

“We aim to secure a range of talented young people from across NSW who reflect our diverse population,” Mr Williams said.

“The feedback received from the Council plays an important role in assisting the NSW Government to develop effective policies and programs for young people.”

One of the key roles of the YAC is to provide advice to the Advocate for Children and Young People, Andrew Johnson.

“The advice of the 2018 NSW Youth Advisory Council has been instrumental to ACYP projects throughout the year. The Council has also met with many different NSW Government Departments and helped to organise events for children and young people to have their voices heard,” Mr Johnson said.
