The Pottsville and District Men’s shed at Black Rock Sports Field in the coastal village has had its lease extended by five and a half years, Tweed Nationals MP Geoff Provest has announced.

“This required a good deal of negotiation with the NSW Minister for Local Government, Shelley Hancock, and I want to thank her for her flexibility and responsiveness. She is a terrific supporter of the Men’s Shed movement,” Mr Provest said.

“I acknowledge there has been some opposition to the project due to concerns about noise impact on the local koala population, but to date there has been no evidence that this has occurred.

“The good people of the Pottsville and District Men’s Shed are just as committed to the preservation or our local wildlife as anyone else.”

Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock said men’s sheds play an important role in our communities and are a vital support network for members across the state.

“I am pleased the Pottsville Men’s Shed will be able to continue to operate out of its existing site and provide the many health and well-being benefits to men across the region,” Mrs Hancock said.

The Pottsville Men’s Shed’s mission is to enhance the well-being, health and quality of life of men by providing a well-equipped workshop and activities, projects and hobbies that they can work on for their own enjoyment or for the benefit of the community at large.

Men will share skills and information to enhance adult learning opportunities and help combat isolation and depression.
