Two local organisations have been recognised for their work delivering food and care hampers to community members in Tweed during the 2021 COVID lockdown, out of 34 groups and not-for-profit organisations to receive funding through the NSW Government’s COVID Regional Community Support program.
Member for Tweed Geoff Provest said Agape Outreach Inc and Indigenous Futures Foundation Ltd will receive reimbursement to recoup costs incurred when preparing and distributing food, essential items and relief packs during the lockdown.
“Indigenous Futures Foundation Ltd who supported our communities by delivering 26260 hampers and relief packs to isolated residents in need of extra support during the lockdown will receive $30,000 in funding whilst Agape Outreach Inc are set to receive $1681 in funding,” Mr Provest said.
“This financial assistance from the NSW Government will help to cover some of the costs incurred, including fuel, couriers and logistics expenses.
“On behalf of the Tweed community I want to thank volunteers and staff at Agape Outreach Inc and Indigenous Futures Foundation Ltd for stepping up and helping fellow community members when they needed it most.”
Minister for Emergency Services and Resilience and Minister for Flood Recovery Steph Cooke said a total of $300,000 is being distributed through the COVID Regional Community Support program.
“The reimbursements provided to these 34 groups and not-for-profit organisations across regional and rural parts of NSW range from $1,000 to $30,000,” Ms Cooke said.
Applications are currently being accepted for grants of up to $50,000 for capacity building initiatives, such as attracting and retaining volunteers and staff, enhancing governance skills, building digital capacity and creating partnerships that foster stronger, more resilient communities.
