The new $673 million Tweed Valley Hospital has reached another construction milestone with the first floor slab being poured on site today.
Construction works for the hospital will continue to ramp up following the recent award of the main works contract to Lendlease Building, as announced by the NSW Premier and NSW Health Minister this month.
Member for Tweed Geoff Provest said this is a significant milestone towards delivering the new world-class facility that will open to patients in 2023.
“The excellent progress of early works on the hospital site throughout last year has provided a solid foundation for the main hospital buildings to now get underway,” Mr Provest said.
“It has been a challenging time for so many people. We are very pleased with the progress of the hospital construction and the many opportunities this project offers our community.”
Health Infrastructure Executive Director Amanda Bock said the project focuses on maximising employment opportunities in the local area.
“I can appreciate the value that a project of this nature will bring, not only for the economy, but also for the health and wellbeing of the community,” Ms Bock said.
Construction will continue to gain momentum and it is expected that the project will employ up to 650 workers at the peak of construction in late 2021.
