NSW recyclers have benefited from $1.5 billion in refunds by returning a record 15 billion containers through Return and Earn.
Nationals Member for Tweed Geoff Provest MP said the people of the Tweed Electorate should be commended for their ongoing commitment to reducing litter and contributing locally to the 15 billion containers.
“Return and Earn has been very successful in Tweed with more than 200 million containers returned since the scheme commenced on 1 December 2017.”
“In 2025 there were more than 25 million containers collected in Tweed alone,” Mr Provest said.
The NSW Government is preparing to expand the scheme to accept wine and spirit bottles and larger containers from mid-2027.
This scheme expansion will divert an estimated 27,000 tonnes of materials from NSW landfills annually, and make an additional 362 million containers eligible for the 10 cent refund each year.
Return and Earn includes around 660 return points across NSW including reverse vending machines, staffed automated depots and over the counter sites.
Tweed has 6 self service points across the electorate in Pottsville, Condong, Kingscliff, Chinderah, Terranora, Tweed Heads South and one staffed centre on Ourimbah Road, Tweed Heads.
