Nationals Member for Tweed Geoff Provest MP has today slammed the NSW Labor Government for their failure to protect children from sexual predators.
Federal, state and territory governments previously agreed to connect to a pilot of the National Continuous Checking Capability (NCCC), a real-time police check database, by the end of 2026.
This National database would allow states and territories to “talk” to each other and track the criminal histories of those with working with children checks.
State and territories must opt in to the system by modifying their existing program to connect to the database and has been available since December last year.
However the NSW Labor Government has not opted in and is yet to confirm when it will join.
“This is an absolute disgrace that the NSW Labor party is not putting the safety of children front and centre,” Mr Provest said.
“The Minns Labor Government should be doing everything they can to protect children in NSW and any enhancement of our working with children checks process should be undertaken as a priority.
“Being a cross-border community here in the Tweed, we can’t continue to operate in isolation at a State level.
“Any system gaps allow these people to continue their abuse.”
“A greater sense of urgency is required to protect vulnerable children and stop predators.
“It’s imperative the NSW Labor Government acts now.”
