The beautiful Tweed will welcome some of Australia’s best emerging cyclists, with the 2020 National Road Series National Tour kicking off in the region thanks to the support of the NSW Government.

Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism and Major Events and Member for Tweed Geoff Provest said the nine-day AusCycling event will feature a mix of road races, criteriums and time trials, which will decide the overall winner of Australia’s National Road Series (NRS).

“This event will bring hundreds of cyclists and visitors into the Tweed, injecting much-needed dollars into the pockets of local hotels, restaurants and shops, boosting the state’s economy at this critical time,” Mr Provest said.

“Our focus is on recovery and that means getting local businesses back on their feet, and I’m delighted that the NSW Government, via its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, will be supporting the 2020 National Road Series National Tour.

“Our spectacular scenery will also be on show to those at home, with the event broadcast via SBS television across the nine days.”

NSW Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said growing tourism across regional NSW is one of the Government’s top priorities, and there has never been a more important time than now.

“This year has taken an enormous toll on local communities so it’s great to have events such as the 2020 National Road Series National Tour that will not only provide an economic boost, but send a clear message to the rest of Australia that our state is wide open and ready for visitors to enjoy in a COVID-safe way,” Mr Ayres said.

Race Director Mike Crawley said it was great to have the support of the NSW Government and local council.

“It’s been nine months since an NRS event was last held, so we’re extremely grateful to be able to proceed with the National Road Series National Tour this year, which will bring the Australian cycling community back to the wonderful Tweed to determine this year’s Champion team,” Mr Crawley said.

The 2020 National Road Series National Tour, held in the Tweed region from 28 November – 6 December, will be run by NX Sports Community Foundation and attract professional, semi-professional and sponsored men’s and women’s teams accredited to compete in the NRS.
