Commuters in Bilambil Heights are being provided increased connections to work and home with Surfside Buslines adding peak hour services for the 611 route from Monday.

Member for Tweed Geoff Provest said services in the area have been disrupted since flooding earlier this year caused a major landslip on Scenic Drive.

“We’ve listened to customers and are providing these additional morning and afternoon peak hour services to Tweed City Shopping Centre,” Mr Provest said.

“Many bus routes in the Tweed area have been affected by the major landslip on Scenic Drive, which required Surfside to redirect and re-route some of its services.”

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Sam Farraway said Tweed Shire Council are working hard to restore Scenic Drive, with work expected to be completed early in 2023, weather permitting.

“Anyone who’s seen that landslip understands it will take time and a lot of work to fully restore the road,” Mr Farraway said.

“Surfside have been very flexible with their efforts right across the Tweed region and we’re pleased they’ve managed to provide this peak-hour service to and from Bilambil Heights on the 611 route.”

The new morning service will operate from Simpson Drive before Peninsula Drive at 7.57am, arriving at Tweed City Shopping Centre at 8.30am, while the afternoon service will depart Tweed City Shopping Centre at 5pm, arriving at Simpson Drive before Peninsula Drive at 5.25pm.

These additional peak services complement the existing 611 route that operates daily from 9.20am and 1.45pm.

Peak hour services start on Monday 27 June and will continue until further notice.
