The Tweed community is one step closer to benefitting from modern education facilities with a call made for construction tenders for upgrades at Tweed Heads South Public School and Tweed River High School.
Early construction work is currently being undertaken on both schools and Member for Tweed, Geoff Provest welcomed the next steps towards the major upgrades.
“I’m excited that the main construction work for these projects can now get started and I look forward to watching the fantastic new facilities take shape,” Mr Provest said.
“The contract for major works signifies the next milestone in the $50 million upgrades which will deliver permanent new classrooms and refurbished facilities to each school.
“We want our students to be inspired when they come to school and these upgrades at these schools will do just that.
The upgrades, which are due to be completed by the end of 2021, include the following new facilities:
- The upgrade at Tweed Heads South Public School will deliver 11 new permanent classrooms, a new library, new out of school hours care facilities, a new school entrance and improved playground space.
- At Tweed River High School the school community will benefit from a new library, new senior learning environment, new and refurbished learning spaces, extension of the technology and applied studies building and refurbishment of the hospitality teaching area.
Early works started at the schools in April 2020 to deliver a new school entrance and canteen at Tweed Heads South Public School; and an upgrade to the canteen at Tweed River High School.
The NSW Government is investing $6.7 billion over four years to deliver 190 new and upgraded schools to support communities across NSW. In addition, a record $1.3 billion is being spent on school maintenance over five years, along with a record $500 million for the sustainable Cooler Classrooms program to provide air conditioning to schools. This is the largest investment in public education infrastructure in the history of NSW.
